The word "diet" immediately conjures up images of weight-loss plans that may cause discomfort.
In fact, if it did, you are probably not alone. For instance, if you always see
"diet" being used in marketing to describe foods with little sodium
or fat, like diet soda, you are not alone.
Diet can also refer to the food and drink a person consumes on a daily basis and the
physical, mental and psychological circumstances that surround the consumption
of these foods. Nutrition goes beyond simply following a “healthy” diet—it
involves nourishment on every level, including relationships with family, friends,
nature (the environment), our bodies, our community, and the world.
Choices about nutrition are very much part of human relations with other humans and
other creatures on this planet, so healthy (and unhealthy) nutrition habits
have a substantial impact.
